What does general pathology entail?
Learning mechanisms and characteristics of basic disease processes. E.g., inflammation, tumors
What does systemic pathology entail?
Learning specific diseases associated with different organs/ systems. E.g., lung cancer, hepatitis
What is the definition of “diagnosis”?
The process of identifying a specific disease in a patient so that treatment can be provided for a good outcome of patient health
Why are autopsies done? (4)
- Determine the cause of death
- Student Education
- Quality assurance of correct diagnosis
- Research regarding the cause of disease
Define the process of making a diagnosis?
- Clinical history
- Clinical exam
- Identify organ/organ system affected
- General idea of what the probable cause is
- Integrate clinical information to make a diagnosis
- Request a special examination to make a specific diagnosis

Study of disease and the symptoms expressed in that disease
