Diagnosing Anaphylaxis
Sudden onset of airway / breathing / circulation problems
Skin changes
Once anaphylaxis is diagnosed
- Call for resuscitations team / ambulance
- Remove trigger (e.g. stop infusions)
- Lie flat +/- legs elevated, +/- sitting up (e.g. not standing)
Management of Anaphylaxis
- Remove trigger (e.g. stop infusions)
- Lie flat +/- legs elevated, +/- sitting up (e.g. not standing)
- Adrenaline IM, +/- oxygen
If no response after 5 mins since 1st Adrenaline IM injection
- Repeat Adrenaline IM
- IV fluid bolus (e.g. crystalloid)
If no response after 2 x adrenaline IM doses
- Confirm resus team / ambulance has been called
- Follow refractory anaphylaxis algorithm

Anterolateral aspect
(middle third of the thigh)
