Analysis Of Posture Flashcards
Posture
The composite of the positions of all the joints of the body at any given moment
Posture
The position of all joints at a given point
4 distinct curves
Cervical curve-secondary curve
Thoracic curve - primary curve
Lumbar curve - secondary curve
Sacral curve - primary curve
Primary curve
Curve that is convexed posteriorly
Secondary curve
Curve that is convexed anteriorly
Causes of poor posture
Bad habits
Neuromusculoskeletal defects
Pain
Fatigue
Standard posture
Bones of the lower extremities are in ideal alignment
Neutral position of pelvis
Good alignment of abdomen and trunk
Chest and upper back are positioned for Respiratory functions
Head is erect in a well position
What are the effects of good posture
Helps muscles to be unloaded and relaxed
Improves respiratory and circulatory effeciency
Prevents unnecessary strain and fatigue
Decreases the incidence of disease resulting from poor posture
Improves subject’s state mentally
Ideal plumb line
Lobe of the ear
Through the cervical vertebrae
Through the shoulder joint
Approximately Midway through the trunk
Approximately through the greater trochanter
Slightly anterior to the midline of the knee
Slightly anterior to the lateral malleolus
Plumb line
Line of reference, created with a cord and weight at the end of the cord
Lateral view /side view reference point
In front of lateral malleolus (mid coronal plane)
Posterior / back view
Stands with feet equidistant from the line/ midway between heels(mid sagittal plane)
Poor posture
Any deviation from the ideal erect posture
Deviations of poor posture
Secondary deformities and compensatory postural defects
Fatigability
Decreased respiratory and circulatory effeciency
Pain, psychological disturbances and cosmetic appearance
Lordosis
An increased anterior Lumbar curve from neutral
