Anaerobic Respiration Flashcards

1
Q

Anaerobic Cellular Respiration

A
  • no oxygen
  • usually prokaryotes (archaea and bacteria)
  • similar to aerobic except no oxygen in final electron acceptor. Different chemical needs to be used
    Replacements: SO4, NO3 and CO2
  • releases different by products

Q

Fermentation

A
  • aerobic organisms have no oxygen, they fermentation to release energy
  • less efficient/less atp
  • builds up harmful products
  • requires glycolysis, different reactions no oxygen, doesnt enter krebs cycle
  • in cytoplasm only

Q

Lactic Acid Fermentation

A
  • used by single cell organisms
  • our muscles use this when oxygen low
  • buildup = muscle cramps
  • transported to liver, oxidizes with oxygen, back to pyruvate
