Anaerobic Respiration Flashcards
1
Q
Anaerobic Cellular Respiration
A
- no oxygen
- usually prokaryotes (archaea and bacteria)
- similar to aerobic except no oxygen in final electron acceptor. Different chemical needs to be used
Replacements: SO4, NO3 and CO2 - releases different by products
2
Q
Fermentation
A
- aerobic organisms have no oxygen, they fermentation to release energy
- less efficient/less atp
- builds up harmful products
- requires glycolysis, different reactions no oxygen, doesnt enter krebs cycle
- in cytoplasm only
3
Q
Lactic Acid Fermentation
A
- used by single cell organisms
- our muscles use this when oxygen low
- buildup = muscle cramps
- transported to liver, oxidizes with oxygen, back to pyruvate
4
Q
Alchohol Fermentation
A
- ethanol fermentation used by types of bacteria
- Alcohol by product
- process used to produce wine and beer
5
Q
Endosymbiosis
A
Lives within another organism
