Anaerobic glycolytic system Flashcards
Anaerobic glycolytic
How is energy produced from this system?
Glycogen broken down by glycogen phosphorylase to produce glucose and glucose is broken down by phosphofructokinase to produce pyruvic acid
This produces 2 ATP
is insufficient O2 present, pyruvic acid broken down by lactate dehydrogenase to produce lactic acid
anaerobic glycolytic
How long does it last for?
60-90s
Kicks in after ATP-PC
Where is glycogen stored?
muscle/liver
How many ATP molecules are produced by glucose?
2 ATP
What does lactic acid result in?
diffuses into tissue fluid and blood
if not removed, builds up to impede muscle contraction and causes fatigue
anaerobic glycolytic
How long is recovery time?
approx 8 minutes
What are the advantages?
high intensity
no delay in O2 delivery
What are the disadvantages?
short duration
by-product of lactic acid
low energy yield 1:2
