Q

anaerobic fermentation

A

a metabolic pathway that occurs
in the absence of oxygen. Involves
glycolysis, followed by further
reactions that convert pyruvate
into lactic acid in animals, or
ethanol and CO2 in yeasts

Q

Why can’t we just use Glycolysis to get a yeild of 2 ATP instead of fermentation

A

for glycolysis to
continue indefinitely and keep producing energy, the cell must still find a way to convert
NADH back to NAD+, which is an input of glycolysis, without the use of oxygen.
