Amyloidosis Flashcards

1
Q

Types of local amyloidosis and protein accumulated.

A

Age-related: accumulation of NORMAL transthyretin in the heart related to aging. Asx.
Heritable: accumulation of ABNORMAL transthyretin
Organ specific:
-Alzheimer’s: accumulation of beta-amyloid in brain.
-DM2: deposition of amylin in pancreas.

Q

types of systemic amyloidosis and main protein

A

Diseases produced by beta pleated sheets of proteins.
AL (primary): deposition of Light chains (kappa and Lambda). Seen in multiple myeloma.
AA (secondary): deposition of amyloid A, secondary to systemic chronic diseases such as chron’s, TB, CA, SLE, RA.
Dyalisis: deposition of beta2 micro globulin, produces carpal tunnel syndrome.
