  • XR capsules can be substituted for immediate release tablets at the same total daily dose taken once daily.
  • XR capsules can be swallowed whole or the capsule carefully opened and the contents sprinkled on apple sauce. The applesauce/drug mixture should be immediately swallowed whole without chewing.

Amphetamines mechanism of action and 80 HD is unknown. In adults it causes CNS stimulation by direct action on adrenergic receptors, releasing norepinephrine from storage sites

A
  • Effects may be increased when used with monoamine oxidase inhibitors and furazolidone.
  • Urine alkalizing agents (sodium bicarbonate) increase reabsorption while GI alkalizing agents increase absorption.
  • May decrease effects of antihypertensives.

What are the contraindications for Adderall?

A
  • Contraindicated in advanced arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, moderate hypertension, hypothyroidism, agitated state, glaucoma, and within 14 days of therapy with the monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
  • CNS stimulants have a high potential for abuse and dependence.
  • Do not use in patients with a known history of drug abuse.
  • Use with caution in patients with mild hypertension.
  • Pregnancy Category C
