Ampelography Flashcards
Ampelography
a discipline allowing description of all grapevine varieties in the world in order to make possible their vinification (based on description of grapevine organs, primarily leaf)
Aims of Ampelography
to characterize, identify, and solve problems of synonyms and homonyms among grapevine varieties and VITIS species
Ampelographic synonyms
varieties having the same genotype but different name
Ampelographic homonyms
varieties having different genotype but same name
OIV
cultural and technological characteristics (Organization of Vine and Wine)
UPOV
protection of new varieties (International Union for Protection of New Varieties and Plants)
IBPGR
gene banks (Internation Board for Plant Genetic Recourses)
OIV descriptors
OIV numbers; notes, words describing corresponding figure; example varieties are indicated if possible; definitions: additional information about how and when characteristic need to be described; figures
OIV descriptor classification (QUANTITATIVE)
measurable on a one dimensional scale and showing continuous variation between two extremes (scores can vary from 1 to 9)
Ampelographic card
descriptive method that is essentially based on morphological (physical form and external structure) plant habit
Ampelometry
measurements of parameters from different plant organs (leaves- fillometry; fruits- carpometry)
Determination of secondary metabolites
anthocyannins (water-soluble pigments) and volatiles
Analysis of isoenzyme systems
isoenzyme is one of different chemical structures of an enzyme
DNA analysis
molecular markers (SSRs) and use of PCR (polymerase chain reaction) method
