A
The absence or abnormal cessation of menstrual periods

What is primary ovarian insufficiency?
A
The cessation of ovulation before 40 years of age

What is the pathophysiology of PCOS?
A
The ovaries produce excessive androgens due to hyperinsulinaemia and altered steriodogenesis.
This leads to growth of small follicles
Resulting in
>inhibited maturation of follicles and ovulation
>inhibiting oestrogen and progesterone synthesis
>inhibited aromatise activity
>altered body composition
