What is the minimum slope for a roof?
1/4” per foot or 2%
What is the slope for a steep roof?
2” per foot and greater
What is the slope for a low sloped roof?
1/4” per foot to 2” per foot
What types of materials are used for steep roofs?
shakes, shingles, thatching, clay or concrete tiles
What does water vapor do to roof membranes?
blistering, flapping, displace or crack
What are the 3 families of low sloped roofs?
bituminous, single ply, fluid applied
What is the code for back up drains?
no more than 2” above primary drains
What is the diameter of a strainer?
twice the area of the drain pipe
What is epdm and what is it used for?
plastic, for single ply roofs
What is gravel ballast used for?
protection of the asphalt from the sun. it weighs it down so it doesn’t uplift. often a thermal mass and white.
What does a pitch pan do?
mechanically protects around penetrations, but it leaks
What does a cone shaped boot do?
clamps the top of the ppe and tapers it outward, mechanically diverts water
What does a cant strip do?
it is a block that angles the membrane 45 degrees so water doesn’t get stuck at corners
A high albedo is what color?
white
High emissivity does what?
it releases heat more, so it can cool itself more effectively
