Alzheimer's Flashcards
What happens to those with Alzheimer’s disease?
Amyloid plaques live in extracellular places around neurons, inside neurons neurofibrillary. These tangles kill neurons in the brain. Depletion of brain
What can you do with amyloid plaques?
Stain aggregate lumps of amyloid protein.
What causes Alzheimer’s disease?
Mutation
What do beat amyloids do?
Combine-protein sticks out and forms plaque group of beta with antennae.
What chromosome is it found on?
Chromosome 21
Down syndrome also on chromosome 21
150%
What else is there other than tangles?
microtubules, part of the cytoskeleton.
What is AcHe?
Enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine.
What is treatment focused on?
Initially decline of acetycholine - cholinergic agonist only works early stages. Drugs include Chlorestare inibitors, revagistine (exelern) and galatamine (bemytrril)
What does Ebixa do?
NMDA receptor against blocks memantine. May stop gluatminergic induced neurotoxicity.
What effect have stem cells had?
Slight improvement.
