Altrimetry Flashcards
What is altimetry?
The study of pressure variation within the atmosphere.
As height increases pressure and density….
Decrease
What 3 factors effect density?
1) pressure: greater the pressure the greater the density
2) humidity: water vapour is less dense than dry air.
3) Temperature: the lower the temperature the greater the density
What is pressure?
Force per unit area
What is a dyne?
Force required to produce acceleration of 1cm per second per second to a mass of 1kg
What is a hectopascal?
1,000 dynes per square cm
What is the ISA pressure in inches of mercury ?
29.92 inches
What is the ISA?
The standard atmosphere is a set of average values which are utilises for calibration.
List the ISA
MSL Temperature 15
MSL pressure 1013.25 hPa(29.92 inches)
MSL Density 1225gm Cu m
Lapse Rate 1.98 per 1,000ft (up to 11kms/36,090ft)
