altimeter settings Flashcards
chapter 11
changes to altimeters in flight
confirmed by both PF and PM
initiated by PF
communicated to PM
setting the QNH
electronic flight instrument system (EFIS) altimeter knob must be PUSHED then turned to selected value
setting standard (STD)
EFIS altimeter knob must be PULLED
STD should be set automatically
PFD checked to see if the change has even set
who’s responsible for setting standby altimeter
PM
ground operations QNH
set on all three altimeters during preliminary cockpit prep
if QNH changes whilst in the ground who’s responsible
PF responsible for actioning the change by calling ‘set QNH’
PM responds XXXX set and cross checked
Pm responsible for checking all 3
take off QNH
set on all altimeters
once above acceleration altitude and transition alt who will call for change to standard and how
PF ‘set standard’
how will pilots transition to STD
pull altimeter setting knob on their EFIS panel
who will cross check their instrumentation and who responds
both
PM responds ‘standard set and cross checked
what happens with the standby altimeter
remains on local until passing both the transition altitude and MSA
when is destination QNH set and on what
before TOD on all three altimeter with the main altimeters having the QNH backset by each pilot
what is mandatory when backsetting QNH
each pilot crosscheck that the other pilot has returned their altimeter to STD
approach QNH - when cleared from a FL to altitude what will the PF call and what will happen
set QNH
pilots then set QNH on own EFIS panel
PM responds ‘xxx set and cross checked’ checking them all
what happens if an update to QNH is missed
PM may make the call altimeters to prompt the PF into calling for the correct QNH setting
