Medetomidine facts

A

Sedation is dose dependant (1-2mcg/kg IV lasts 40mins, 5mcg/kg IV 60 mins)
Vasoconstriction and bradycardia
vomiting in cats
analgesia - <10 mcg/kg, <1 hr of analgesia

A

Atipamezole - reversal of medetomidine
volume of medetimidine given to dog, 1/2 volume of medetomidine that was given to cat
Given IM, may be given IV in emergency
onset 5-10 mins IM
resection can occur
can cause vasodilation and tachycardia
