Allergy mediator Flashcards
What happens to TH2 response when bacteria is removed? (hygiene theory)
Incresased TH2 response
What is the action of IL-5?
IL-5 stimulates B cell proliferation and increases IgE secretion
IL-5 increase the production of eosinophils from bone marrow
IL5-attracts eosinophils in the site of the response
What causes an immediate response?
Histamines: Serotonin, Serine protease
Synthesised Bioactive lipids
GIVE AN OVERVIEW OF AN ALLERGIC REACTION
1- inital contactwith allergen- B-cell Ab bind to allergen
2- B-cell differentation and proliferation
3- Plamsa cell releases IgE complementary to the allergen
4- mast cells express the Ab on their surface
5- Allergen bind to the Ab on the mast cell
6- Mast cell releases histamines throught granulomas and other chemokines resulting in a allergic reaction
What do Prostoglandins cause?
Vasodilation
Swelling
Sensitive pain receptors
Fever
Can effect innate immune cells
Interacts with other mediators
What are some of the methods to reduce symptoms?
Reduce IgE (anti-IgE Ab)
Increase allergen specific IgG
Mast cell stabilisers
Block production of mediators
Block effect of released mediators
Counteract the effects of mediators
What does Cyclosporine do?
Inhibit T-cells—> reduce IgE
What drug is used fro mast cell stabilisation?
Sodium Cromoglycolate
prevents mast cell degranulaton and the release of mediators
What drug blocks Pordction of mediators?
Corticosteroids
Non steroidal anto-inflammatory drugs- NSAID
What drug blocks the effects of released mediators?
Histamine receptor antagonist
PG receptor antagonist
Leukotriene receptor antagonist
PAF receptor antagonist
What drug counteracts the effect of mediators?
Bronchodilators
Beta-adrenoreceptor agonist
Andrenalin in anaphylactic shock
Vasoconstictors
