Allergy and asthma Flashcards
1
Q
Immune response to asthma
A
- Protein presented to dendritic cells
- Presented to T cell on MHC ii
- Dendritic cells release IL-4
- Differentiation into Th2 cells + clonal expansion
- Class switching to IgE
- Memory B cell made
2
Q
Th2 and IL-4
A
Induces B cell switching to IgE production
Opposes Th1 activity
3
Q
TH2 and Il5
A
Eosinophil growth factor
4
Q
TH2 and IL13
A
Acts on epithelial cell and smooth muscle
5
Q
TH17 and IL17
A
Enhancement of eosinophil recruitment
6
Q
Th1 and IFN-y
A
IFN-y inhibits switch to IgE
7
Q
Sx of IgE mediated response
A
- Hives
- Angioedema
- Palatal itching
8
Q
Sx of non-IgE mediated response
A
- Eczema flare up
- Food aversion
- Spitting up
- Colicky children
- Pallor due to anaemia
- Faltering growth
9
Q
Diagnosing allergy
A
IgE mediated - skin prick testing
10
Q
Anaphylaxis tx
A
Antihistamines and salbutamol steroids
11
Q
What is anaphylaxis?
A
- Potentially life threatening systemic hypersensitivity reaction
- Rapid in onset, airway/breathing/circulatory problems, mucosal/skin changes
12
Q
Anaphylaxis sx
A
Hives, swelling, coughing, nausea, dizziness, anxiety etc
13
Q
Anaphylaxis tx
A
Adrenaline injection
Call 999
14
Q
Allergen immunotherapy
A
- Sublingually under the tongue or subcutaneously into skin or orally via food
- You want to decrease IgE
- You want to increase IgG4 and IgA (blocking antibodies)
- You want to increase Il-10 (decreasing TH2 cytokines)
- Decreases allergen proliferation and decreases tissue damage
