Name the advantages and disadvantages of using ICT in the workplace
Advantages: -allows you to work whenever you have a computer
-allows you to communicate more effectively with customers and employees
- produces speed and efficiency
Disadvantages:requires constant upgrading of skills
requires you to work longer hours.
Name three careers that require ICT
Medicine-doctors constantly need to upgrade their skills
Music- dj’s always compose music using ICT
Engineering- use graphic software for their designs
Explain the cycle of computers
Computers take:
-Input from an input device like a mouse or keyboard
-process the information
Then they produce some form of output
Why would one computer considered to be more powerful than the other?
- the amount and type of storage it has
- the size of the memory(allows more programs and data to be processed at one time)
- type of graphics card installed
- speed and performance
What are portable computers known as, and describe further
Portable computers are know as laptops.
They run on battery power, use smaller parts for power consumption and they have power settings that are used to manage power such as:
-Sleep mode
-screen brightness
Explain what a tablet is and what it is ideal for
A tablet is a portable computer with a touch screen. They are ideal for quick , small scale computing.
Specifications include:
-longer battery life than computers
-built in WiFi and cellular connectivity
-operating systems designed for mobile devices
What is a phablet?
A phablet is a smartphone with a screen size bigger than 5 inches
- it has a touch screen for typed input
- mobile operating system
- combines features of many separate devices
What is a smart phone?
A smart phone combines all the features and technologies of many separate devices. All smartphones have the following: -GPS -wifi -cameras
What is a server?
A powerful computer that provides services and resources to other clients.
What is a client?
Any computing device that connects to a server and uses it services.

What is a UPS?
UPS stands for uninterruptible power supply
It protects the computer against power outages,spikes,surges.
It only provides power for a limited duration
