Q

Describe the major and minor products within alkenes

A

• The major product is formed via a more stable carbocation

•The more alkyl groups present, the more electron density can be distributed to the +ve C and the more stable intermediate it is = positive inductive effect.

Q

What is the electron density and reactivity in an alkene

A

π Pi bonds are due to overlap of p orbital electrons and are electron rich therefore are susceptible to attack from positive species such as electrophiles

Q

What is a use of polymers

A

Plasticisers-> for example PVC is rigid enough to make into drain pipes, but with the use of plasticisers can become flexible enough to make into aprons
