Alkanones Flashcards

1
Q

What are alkanones?

A

These are dipole carbonyl compounds with the functional group:

         O
        ||
         C
      /     \
   R         R

Q

What are the physical properties of alkanones?

A
  1. Lower alkanones are soluble in water due to the hydrogen bond and dipole-dipole attraction that is formed between alkanones and water molecules.
  2. Boiling point increases with increasing molecular mass, arising from the increase in Van Der Waal forces which is a result of increasing electrons.
