Algebra 1 - 2 Flashcards
an algebraic statement that two algebraic expressions are equal
an equation
Equations which contain variables to the first power and have at most one variable in each term are called
simple equations
To solve equation with one unknown number is to find the number that
satisfies the equation
the number that satisfies an equation is called the
root/solution of the equation
verifying or proving the root by
substituting the root into the original equation to see if it satisfies the equation
when transposing terms in an equation, it is helpful to keep the equal signs aligned
vertically
Identical terms can be cancelled from an equation if
they occur on both sides of the equation and they have the same sign
