Q

What is reaction between carbonyls and 2,4-DNPH

A

All carbonyls react with 2,4-DNPH and produce water as a by-product. This is the test for carbonyls, as it produces a crystalline yellow solid

Q

What is the Tollen’s reagent test

A

Silver mirror test. Add to aldehydes with heat and a silver mirror will form, no reaction with ketones

Q

What is the Fehling’s solution test

Q

What is the iodoform test

A

Positive test for any carbonyl group adjacent to a CH3. Usually a test for ketones, but ethanal gives the same result.
