MOA of disulfiram
Inhibit enzyme aldehyde dehydrogenase.
ADR of disulfiram
Concentration of acetaldeyde increases in tissues and blood and leads to a symptoms called aldehyde syndrome. It includes flushing burning sensation, throbbing headache, uneasiness, tightness in chest, dizziness, vomiting, visual disturbances, mental confusion, syncope and circulatory failure
Disulfiram aversion therapy used for
Subjects who really desire to leave alcohol as it makes taking alcohol a bad experience
Manifestations of methyl alcohol poisoning
Vomiting, headache, Epigastric pain, drunkenness, dyspnoea, bradycardia and hypotension
Acidosis
Retinal damage
Management of methyl alcohol poisoning
- Patient in a dark room
- Gastric lavage with sodium bicarbonate
- Combat acidosis with sodium bicarbonate
- KCL infusion for Hypokalemia due to alkali therapy
- Ethanol
- Fomepizole
- Hemodialysis
- Folate therapy
Ethanol administration dose for methyl alcohol poisoning
Nasogastric tube,
Loading doze 0.7ml/kg followed by 0.15ml/kg every hour

Inhibit alcohol dehydrogenase
