What is a gateway drug?
A drug that gets a person to become addicted to another drug.
Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) (define)
the amount of alcohol in a person’s blood
Distillation
A process that uses a fermented mixture to obtain an alcoholic beverage with a high alcohol content.
Binge Drinking
Consuming large amounts of alcohol in a short amount of time.
Delirium Tremens
A severe form of alcohol withdrawal syndrome in which there are hallucinations and muscle convulsions.
Emphysema
A condition in which the alveoli lose most of their ability to function.
Mainstream smoke
Smoke that is directly inhaled into the smoker’s mouth and lungs.
Side-stream smoke
Smoke that enters the air from a burning cigarette, cigar, or pipe.
Leukoplakia
Abnormal cells in the mouth that appear as white patches of tissue.
