7
Q

how fermentation works

A

fermentation of glucose in absence of oxygen (anaerobic) so doesn’t convert to CO2
uses zymase in yeast
30C temp for optimum temperature for zymase enzyme
alcohol content reaches 12% kills yeast and stops fermentation

Q

catalytic hydration
where it comes from
pros and cons of method

A

uses ethene comes from oil not renewable, faster but needs heat and pressure, pure ethanol, continuous process
