Q

cracking

A

breaking down a long chain alkane to a short chain alkane and alkene to make a profit. short chain alkanes more useful and more profitable and alkene can be made into plastic

Q

how to do cracking

A

boiling tube with mineral wool soaked in a liquid hydrocarbon and the catalyst silica/alumina. bung boiling tube fill boiling tube with water and place over tub of water. Heat wool and bubble into boiling tube. Test with bromine water
