What is the function of the Flight Control Unit?

The Flight Control Unit (FCU) is located on the glare shield is short-term interface between the Flight Crew and the FMGC. It is used to select and parameters or modify those selected in the MCDU. The autopilots and auto thrust functions may be engaged or disengaged. Different guidance mode can be selected to change various targets (speed, track, altitude, flight path angle, vertical speed).
