Airway / Vent Management Flashcards
What is the PF Ratio?
PO2 / FiO2 = PF Ratio
Normal range is anything > 450
What is the normal range for Ve (Minute Ventilation)?
4-8L per minute
Vt x F = Ve
What is FiO2?
Percentage of inspired gas that is Oxygen.
Room air is typically .21 (21%)
FiO2 x 6 should be close to your PAO2
FiO2 x 5 should be close to your PaO2
What is alveolar volume? What is the “norm”?
Air present the alveoli available for actual gas exchange. Norm is ~350mL. Can affect this with Tidal Volume.
About how much volume is equated to dead space?
~150mL
What is PIP?
Peak Inspiratory Pressure: Highest pressure encountered during INHALATION (cmH2O)
What is PEEP?
Positive End Expiratory Pressure: The maintenance of an airway pressure continuously through the expiratory phase.
What does plateau pressure represent (Pplat)?
Represents static lung compliance. Best indicator of volutrauma / barotrauma.
What is the ideal baseline parameter for Pplat?
Pplat < 30 cmH2O
What is the ideal baseline parameter for PIP?
PIP < 40 cmH20
What is the ideal baseline parameter for PEEP?
PEEP 3-6 cmH20
What do you closely need to monitor with pressure controlled ventilation?
Exhaled tidal volume
What is the “last resort” ventilator mode for adults?
APRV
What is the “last resort” ventilator mode for adults?
HFOV (High Frequency Oscillator Ventilation)
What is the best ventilator mode for a patient coming off of sedation or paralyzation?
Assist Control (Will give a full breath if triggered)
