What are the causes of airway obstruction?
A
- Laryngomalacia, stenosis, foreign body
- Laryngitis, epiglottitis, croup, anaphylaxis
- Tumours
- Thermal/chemical trauma

What are the signs of airway obstruction?
A
- Stridor
- Swallowing difficulties/drooling
- Pallor/cyanosis
- Use of accessory muscles of respiration
- Tracheal tug

What is the acute management of airway obstruction?
A
- 15L non-rebreathe oxygen (consider heliox)
- Nebulised adrenaline + IV dexamethasone 8mg
- Call ENT/anaesthetist for help
- Emergency needle cricothyroidotomy temporary measure (30-45 mins)
- Endotracheal intubation 1st line airway
