Airway management Flashcards
1
Q
IPPV
A
- intermittent positive pressure ventilation
2
Q
Complications of airway management
A
- may see tracheitis or pressure necrosis
– this can lead to tracheal strictures - extreme cases may see tracheal rupture
- always disconnect from breathing system when changing position whenever a change in recumbency is needed
- always inflate carefully & listen for leaks
3
Q
Methods of airway management
A
- endotracheal tubes
- masks
- laryngeal mask airways
4
Q
CS of tracheal necrosis
A
- subcutaneous emphysema
- slightly hypoxic
5
Q
PEEP definition and use
A
- positive end expiratory pressure
- can be useful for pts remaining hyperaemic on 100% oxygen
6
Q
How to do manual ventilation
A
- close expiratory valve
- gently squeeze rebreathing bag whilst watching the pts chest rising
- stop squeezing when feel have given enough
- open expiratory valve so animal can exhale passively
- repeat
