Airspace control Flashcards
What is the aim of airspace control?
To maximize the effectiveness of military operations in order for air, land, maritime, and SF to operate in an efficient and flexible manner with minimum mutual interference without undue restraint and risk to friendly forces and non-combatant airspace users
What types of methods of airspace control is there?
Positive
Procedural
What is positive airspace control?
It’s real time, coordination and maximum freedom of action
Relies on positive identification, tracking, and direction of an aircraft and control of a D within designated airspace by an agency with authority and responsibility
What is procedural airspace control?
It’s simple, but flexible and best for independent action
FSCM and a ACM are tools of procedure control
Relies on agreed and promulgated orders, and procedures
Includes techniques such as the segmenting of airspace by volume and time
Name two types of ACM‘s

ROZ
HIDACZ
What is an HIDACZ?
High density airspace control zone
Airspace of defined dimensions designated by the ACA in which there is a concentrated employment of numerous and varied weapons/airspace users
What is an ROZ?
Restricted operations zone
AROZ is established in order to reserve airspace for specific activities in which the activities of one or more airspace users is restricted
What is a coordinating altitude?
An ACM that uses altitude to separate users and ask the transition between different airspace control elements
What is coordination level?
The coordination level is a procedure method to separate fixed and rotary wing aircraft by determining an altitude below which fixed wing aircraft normally will not fly
What is an ACMREQ?
Airspace control means request
If you need airspace for a certain purpose, this needs to be submitted in time for the ACO process
Timings normally synchronized with the ATO cycle expect 72 hours processing
