AIRSPACE Flashcards
Controlled Airspace
ATC-managed airspace with defined classes (A-E)
Class A
begins from 18,000ft MSL FL 600
Class B
From surface to 10,000ft MSL
Class C
From surface to 4,000ft above airport elevation
Class D
From surface to 2,500ft above airport elevation
Class E
Not classified as class A,B,C,D airspace
Uncontrolled Airspace (class G airspace)
extends from surface to the base of the overlying class E airspace.
Restricted areas
Where operations are hazardous to nonparticipating aircraft. Can operate in if cleared by ATC facility.
Prohibited areas
Flight of aircraft is prohibited.
Military operations areas
Nonparticipating IFR traffic may be cleared through if IFR separation can be provided by ATC
Warning areas
3NM off of the coast need permission.
Alert areas
Area that may contain a high volume of student pilots
Controlled Firing Areas (CFA)
Activities must be suspended when nonparticipating aircraft are spotted
National Security Areas
Pilots are requested to voluntarily avoid flying through the depicted NSA
Military Training Routes (MTR)
Nonparticipating aircraft are not prohibited from flying through but use caution
Airport Advisories
Published VFR Routes
for transitioning around, under, or through some complex airspace
Parachute areas
self explanatory
Terminal Radar Service Areas (TRSA)
Pilots can receive additional radar services
Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFR)
