Wind Direction Indicators
Tells the pilot the direction of the wind. Wind Sock, Tetrahedron, and Wind Tee.

Radio Communications

Dummy checks, Keep talking and say intentions. SQUAK 7600
Primary Radar
Provides information on range, azimuth, and/or elevation of objects in the path of the transmitted pulse.
Secondary Radar- More accurate than primary, has an interrogator, transponder and radarscope.
ATC Radar Beacon System
Helps pilots identify an airport and night.
Flashing white and green for civilian land airports.
Flashing white and yellow for water a airport.
Flashing white, yellow and green heliport.
Two quick white flashes alternating with a green flash is military.
Transponder
The airborne portion of the secondary surveillance radar system. We use mode C.
Wake Turbulence
Air disturbance caused by a pair of counter- rotating vortices trailing from the wing tips.
Most Dangerous: Heavy, Clean, and Slow.
Collision Avoidance
Being alert and scanning for other aircraft.
Clearing Procedures
Should be done every time before takeoff.
Runway Incursion Avoidance
Anything on the ground that shouldn’t be there, creating a runway hazard.
ATC Instructions
Must be followed unless its not safe, in that case say: UNABLE
