Airplane Systems/Flight Instruments Flashcards
ADC
What does it power
Air Data Computer
Pitot Static System
What function does ADC serve in a Glass Cockpit
A solid state decide that takes pitot and static air pressure input and computes airspeed, altitude and vertical speed then sends the info to an electronic flight display
How are C172 control surfaces operated
through cables and mechanical linkage using a control wheel for the ailerons and elevator, and rudder/brakes pedals for the rudder
What are the primary control surfaces
aileron, rudder, and elevator
How does the C172 trim system operate
accomplished thought the elevator trim tab by utilizing the verbally mounted trim control wheel on the center pedestal
Secondary Control Surfaces
Flaps and trim tabs
Powerplant
Lycoming IO-360-L2A
Lycoming IO-360-L2A
direct drive, horizontally opposed, four cylinder, overhead valve, air cooled, fuel injected engine with a wet sump lubrication system
How much HP
Lycoming IO-360-L2A
180 @ 2700RPM
Propeller
two bladed, fixed pitch, one-piece forged aluminum alloy propeller which is anodized to retard corrosion. The propeller is 76 inches in diameter.
Landing Gear
tricycle type, with a steerable nosewheel and two main wheels
Landing Gear Shock Absorption
Shock absorption is provided by the tubular spring steel main landing gear struts and the air/oil nose gear shock strut
Breaks
Each main gear wheel is equipped with a hydraulically- actuated disc type brake on the inboard side of each wheel
Fuel System (airplane)
consists of two vented integral fuel tanks (one tank in each wing), three-position selector valve, fuel reservoir tank, electrically-driven auxiliary fuel pump, fuel shutoff valve, and a fuel strainer
Fuel System
airplane
The engine-mounted portion of the system consists of the engine driven fuel pump, a fuel/air control unit, fuel flow transducer, a fuel distribution valve (flow divider) and fuel injection nozzles
Approved Fuel Grades (and Colors)
100LL Grade Aviation Fuel (Blue). 100 (Formerly 100/130) Grade Aviation Fuel (Green
Purpose of engine oil
clean, lubricate, cool
Electrical System
The airplane is equipped with a 28-volt direct current (DC) electrical system, A belt-driven 60 ampere alternator powers the system. A 24-volt main storage battery is located inside the engine cowling on the left firewall. The alternator and main battery are controlled through the MASTER switch found near the top of the pilot’s switch panel
Purpose of STBY BATT
The standby battery is available to supply power to the essential bus in the event that alternator and main battery power sources have both failed
What 3 instruments work on the pitot-static system?
the airspeed indicator, the altimeter, and the vertical speed indicator
Fuselage construction
semimonocoque
Airframe
The airplane is an all metal, four-place, high wing, single-engine airplane equipped with tricycle landing gear and is designed for general utility and training purposes
AHRS
What instruments does it power
Attitude and Heading Reference System
Gyroscopic Instruments
HSI
Horizontal Situation Indicator
