Airplane General Flashcards
What will cause the emergency exit lights to illuminate when armed?
Loss of AC power OR loss of DC Bus 1
Are there any limitations for retractable landing lights?
No, there are no speed restrictions for retractable landing lights.
When is 100% oxygen supplied to the flight deck oxygen masks?
Switch in 100% or EMER
What triggers MASTER CAUTION? System annunciator lights? When do they extinguish?
MASTER CAUTION and System Annunciator Lights
-Caution outside of normal field of view, or
-Failure of a single-channel system during RECALL
Extinguishes when
-Condition no longer exists, or
-Master Caution Reset
–Caution light remains illuminated (except simple/single channel faults)
What is the difference between single and dual channel system faults? How are the system indications different for single vs dual channel?
Dual channel
-System redundency
-Loss of a single channel – no master caution except during RECALL
-e.g. speed trim, mach trim, autoslats, GPS, PACK controller
Single channel
-No system redundency
-Failure (outside of normal view) – MASTER CAUTION
Light Logic of the B737
Dark aircraft concept (no lights normally (well, normally…))
RED – Immediate
AMBER – Timely
Dim blue – Status light in correct position
Bright blue – Status light in disagreement or in transit
How are 6 flight deck windows different? Which ones open?
L1/R1 and L2/R2 are electrically heated
L2/R2 open (R2 also opens from outside)
L3/R3 not electrically heated and don’t open
What is the Flight Deck Access System (FDAS) and how does it operate?
Controls flight deck door lock
Door automatically locks with DC Bus 2 powered, FDAS – NORM, and door closed
Auto unlock after 60 seconds if correct code entered (and no DENY)
Two chimes immediately, after 20 seconds, and continuously for last 20 sec
DENY locks door for 5 min
How is the passenger oxygen system activated? How long does it supply oxygen?
Activated manually via PASS OXYGEN switch ON, or
Automatically cabin altitude > 14,000’
Supplies oxygen via chemical oxygen generator for 12 minutes once a mask is pulled in a PSU (one generator per PSU)
Which systems can pressure potable water? What conditions must be met?
Bleed air from the engines/APU, or
AC electric compressor if:
–CAB/UTIL switch on,
–Water service panel door closed, and
–Tank pressure < 30 psig
Do the FAs have control of the emergency lights? Do they have any priority?
Yes, FAs can activate EMER lights (aft attendant station) even if cockpit switch OFF or failure of automatic activation
Where are the water and halon fire extinguishers? What do they contain? What fires are they effective on? Serviceable?
Water (x2)
-Class A fires (ash)
-Passenger cabin (forward and aft)
-Water and antifreeze
-Safety wired
Halon (x3)
-All fire types (primarily B/C fuel/electrical)
-2.5lbs Halon w/ 100PSI nitrogen precharge
-Gauge green, pin installed, and safety tied
When do overwing emergency exits lock?
During takeoff, flight, and unlock during landing
Specifically:
-At least 3 of 4 doors closed, and
-Either engine operating, and
-Airborne or TLA advanced for takeoff, and
-DC power available
What do the emergency exit lights illuminate? How are they powered? Activated?
Emergency exit lights illuminate approved and designated escape routes
Powered by battery packs (charged by AC w/ EMER EXIT LIGHTS sw OFF/ARMED)
Interior
–Photoluminescent floor strips
–Aisle via overhead bin
–Entry/service and overwing doors
Exterior
–Escape slide areas (entry/service doors)
–Overwing exit areas (over and behind wing)
Activated
–Manually (cockpit or FA), or
–Automatically w/ loss of AC power OR DC Bus 1
