Aircraft survivability equipment Flashcards
Prevents detection from emissions of radar/radio transmitters:
EMCON- No affect on ASE
RSDS- Radar signal detecting set:
APR-39
Heart of helicopter threat warning suite:
APR-39
Provides visual and aural indications for the presence of and bearing to active radar transmitters:
APR-39
APR-39 consists of:
- 4 spiral antenna detectors- 2 on nose, 2 on aft pylon
- 2 video receivers- 1 in nose, 1 in aft pylon
- 1 blade antenna- bottom of aircraft
- 1 digital processor- in the cabin ceiling at STA 306
- 1 UDM (User Data Module) inserted into digital processor.
APR-39 digital processor does what:
Sends data to indicator (APR-39) and ECU (CMWS)
Contains classified information for threat detection:
UDM- User data module- inserted into digital processor
APR-39 display on center instrument panel shows:
- Threats relative position from helicopter
- Position relative to the center shows the lethality
- Displays a maximum of 7 threat symbols
- U = detected threat cant be identified
APR-39 display signals: \+ \+ flashing F P flashing
+ indicates ASE is fully operational
+ flashing- dense signal environment, detection is degraded
F- Subsystem has failed some portion of PBIT
P flashing- RSDS digital processor failed IBIT
Do not operate RSDS within:
60 yards of ground based radars or 6 yards of airborne radar antennas
Common Missile Warning System (CMWS)- AAR-57 detects:
In-band infrared and UV radiation emitted from missile plum.
CMWS consists of:
- 5 EOMS (electro-optical missile sensor)- 2 forward pylon, 2 aft, 1 underneath.
- 1 electronic control unit (ECU)
- 1 UDM (User Data Module) inserted into ECU
- Requires 2 minute warm up/ DO NOT abort power up & initialization
Improved countermeasure dispenser (ICMD)
Each payload module assembly has:
30 chambers
External countermeasure system designed to protect aircraft from:
Anti-aircraft artillery (AAA)
Surface to air missile (SAM)
Airborne intercept (AI)
8 externally mounted dispensers:
- 4 chaff dispensers, 2 on each side
- 4 flare dispensers, 2 on each side
- M-1 chaff - silver, non descript
