Aircraft Requirements Flashcards
No person shall conduct a special aviation event unless they comply with the provisions of a_________.
Special Flight Operations Certificate (SFOC)
To obtain an SFOC, you must apply for one at the nearest TC office
What kinds of operations do we need an SFOC for?
-Parachute descents in anything other than uncontrolled airspace with no built up areas
-Taking off or landing within a built up area from a place other than an airport
-For the purpose of conducting aerial application, inspection, or photography at altitudes and distances less than normal legal limits
-Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)
-Someone is leaving the plane in flight
-Air shows
What is the Flight Authority in relation to documents you need on board to fly?
Same as the Cirtificate of Airworthiness (which is a TYPE of Flight Authority)
What are some types of Flight Authority other than a Certificate of Airworthiness?
-Special Certificate of Airworthiness:
Restricted, Provisional, Amateur -Built, Limited, and Owner Maintained Aircraft
-Flight Permit:
Experimental (no pax), or Specific Purpose
What manual must be accessible to crew members while in flight?
Flight Manual (Same as a POH but the term flight manual is used in commercial operations more than POH)
In what section of the POH/Flight Manual are the placards listed?
Limitations Sections
What is the purpose of the placards in the cockpit?
They let you know limitations, things that are a little off, or modifications you should know about
Who is responsible for making sure placards are afixed where they should be?
The pilot in command
What is the MEL (Minimum Equipment List) for?
It dictates what equipment is necessary to take off with. There will be hard no-go items but it also outlines things like “If x is inop, but x, x, and x are all working, then you can still go.”
A list of items that are allowed to be inoperative
What does MMEL and MEL stand for?
Master Minimum Equipment List
Minimum Equipment List
Who makes the MMEL for an aircraft?
Initially the company that makes the aircraft. The plane will leave the factory with an MMEL.
Then TC will add (never subtract or contradict the base MMEL) more restrictions to make it safer.
Then the company will make their own additions, will send it back to TC for approval. Once approved, it is known as a MEL.
CARs 704.07 and 705.07 stipulate that an MEL is…
…is mandatory for aircraft registed and used in Canada for commercial purposes in commuter and airline operations, where an MMEL has been established for those aircraft types.
If there is an AD (Airworthiness Directive) that conflicts with the MEL, which source is to be adhered to?
The AD
CARs 605.9 and 605.10 allow for…
aircraft to be operated with equipment removed or inop under certain conditions and with certain restrictions
What manual includes procedures to ensure aircraft are not operated with unserviceable equipment unless the defect can be defered?
The Maintenance Control Manual (MCM)
