Q

What is the purpose of a vent flap on the main cabin door or service doors?

A

a load is applied to the vent flap locking mechanism making a door difficult to open as cabin pressure increases; to relieve residual cabin pressure prior to opening the main cabin or service doors

19
Q

When is the emergency escape slide automatically disarmed?

A

If the main cabin or service doors are opened from outside the aircraft

20
Q

What indications are present to confirm whether or not the escape slides are armed or disarmed?

A

Armed: red armed appears above the door handle; Disarmed: green disarmed appears above the door handle

21
Q

When will the reinforced cockpit door latch automatically open?

A

30 seconds after the flight attendant EMER CALL button has been pulled if the INHIBIT button has not been pushed by the flight crew

22
Q

What happens if the flight crew presses the INHIBIT button?

A

The automatic open function is inhibited for 500 seconds

23
Q

What are the cockpit door blowout panels?

A

Unfolding panels in the cockpit door that help equalize pressure between the cockpit and cabin during a decompression, door retains full ballistic and impact characteristics if panels unfold

24
Q

How is the DVDR activated?

A

Turned on through the MCDU, automatically turns on when an engine is running, automatically turns off with WOW and engines off

25
Q

How many DVDRs are installed?

A

2, one fwd, one aft

26
Q

How long will the DVDR record?

A

2 hours of voice and radio CVR, and 25 hours of flight data in GMT FDR

27
Q

Can the CVR be erased?

A

Yes, the airplane must be on the ground with the parking brake set to erase the CVR

28
Q

What pressurizes the potable water storage tank?

A

Engine or APU bleed air

29
Q

If the AC GPU s to be used to power the aircraft what should be seen on the GPU?

A

AVAIL (NOT in use)

30
Q

How many displays and instruments are on during initial aircraft power-up?

A

DUs 2 and 3, IESS, Clock, MCDU 2, CCD 1, Compass Light?, Trim Panel?

31
Q

What type of passenger doors are on the aircraft?

A

Passenger doors are semi-plug-in type and are designed as type I doors.

32
Q

What is the emergency power assist?

A

The emergency power assist is installed in all four doors to open the door in the event of an emergency.

33
Q

How are the evacuation slides armed?

A

The evacuation slides are armed by raising the slide arming lever cover located on the door and moving the slide arming lever to the “armed” position. The lever attaches the girt bar to the cabin floor brackets. The evacuation slide is attached to the girt bar by means of a fabric girt.

Opening the door from the outside automatically disengages the girt bar from the floor fittings, disarming the slide.

34
Q

How are escape slide lights operated? For how long?

A

A dedicated battery powers the escape slide lights, which will be on for a minimum of 10 min even after the escape slide is disconnected.

35
Q

Can the escape slides be used as floatation devices?

A

Yes. The escape slide may be used as a flotation device after disconnection from airplane.

If the mooring line is not manually detached from the airplane by the Quick Release Handle in an emergency situation, the system is fail safe in that the mooring line will break free from the slide if enough load is applied.

If the aircraft begins to sink, the line is released by automatically by the pulling pressure.

36
Q

Does Mesa Airlines E175 aircraft have passenger life vests installed?

A

E-175 LR aircraft tail numbers 301 through 350 do not carry passenger life vests under the passenger seats. Aircraft 351-360 are in the process of having passenger life vests installed.

37
Q

What is the LRBL and where is it located?

A

The location inside the airplane’s cabin where structural or system damage are least likely to jeopardize flight safety. The LRBL Least Risk Bomb Location is sited aft, as close as possible to the center of the second window from the last window on the airplane left side.

38
Q

How does the ELT operate? What does the ELT system consist of?

A

The Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) ADT 406 S Model is a portable equipment that, when activated, transmits a digital message, on the 406 MHz frequency, to the satellites that are part of the COSPAS-SARSAT system. It also transmits a 121.5 MHz and 243.0 MHz signal to enable the final Approach of the rescue teams.

The system consists of a transmitter and a water sensor; it comprises an ON/OFF/ARMED switch and a TX led and its operating temperatures are -20°C to 55°C. ELT may be manually or automatically activated. In both cases the indicator light and the aural indicator show the ELT activation. Since the ELT is in armed, automatic activation is performed by dipping the beacon into the water. The water sensor needs a certain quantity of water to be trigged. Manual activation is performed by setting the ON/OFF/ ARMED switch to the ON position (pull and slide); the beacon is positioned in a waiting condition for about 30 seconds (this state is displayed by flashing on TX led: 1.75 seconds ON, 0.25 seconds OFF), permitting to undo the action in case of unwanted activation (false maneuver or untimely operation). After that the actual distress signal is transmitted (this state is displayed by flashing on TX led: 0.5 seconds ON, 0.5 seconds OFF).

The power supply is guaranteed by high energy batteries with autonomy 24 hours on 406 MHz and greater than 60 hours at -20°C on 121.5 MHz and 243.0 MHz.

39
Q

What class of cargo compartments does the E175 have? What do they consist of?

A

Both cargo compartments are pressurized. They are “Class-C” compartments and have the following systems installed:

  1. Smoke Detection System.
  2. Fire Extinguishing System.
  3. Ventilation System (FWD)
