What does the C of R tell you? For how long is it valid? What is the purpose of a C of R?
• Nationality and registration mark
• Aircraft manufacturer

• The purpose
• Name and address of owner
• Owner registration date
• Certificate issue date
• signature for the Minister of Transport
It is valid as long as there is no change of owner, address, or purpose. If there is a change in any, transport Canada must be notified within 7 days, new c of r will be sent within 90 days
In Canada, it is based on who has legal custody and control, and not who has financial title.
Its purpose confirms that an aircraft meets the necessary regulatory requirements to operate within a particular jurisdiction
What invalidates the C of R? How long does an owner have to inform TC about a change of address?
The C of R is invalidated by change of owner, address, or purpose. The owner has 7 days to inform TC and a new one will be sent within 90 days
Procedure with respect to C of R when aircraft is sold?
- buyer completes application for registration (back of the c of r), submits to TC
- buyer also completes interim certificate of registration portion which stays with aircraft
-interim certificate is retained by buyer and valid for 90 days - submit the change of ownership card included.
The only proof of ownership is the bill of sale
For how long is the original C of A valid? What actions were taken on the day the C of A was issued?
valid indefinitely as long as the aircraft continues to meet its approved type design, doesn’t exceed operating limits, and all maintenance and alterations are performed according to regulations; essentially, as long as the aircraft remains airworthy and ADs are resolved
What temporarily invalidates the C of A?
• Failure to comply with ADs
• Failure to do required maintenance inspections (unless on an extension)
• Action that contradicts the POH
• Any minor or major incident
• Any open snags in the journey log
How often must the C of A be re-validated?
The C of A must be re-validated annually (AAIR) if not complete won’t invalidate c of a but could result in a fine
Is a C of A issued for amateur built aircraft?
A special c of a is issued for home built aircraft.
it may not meet all the standards of a standard certified aircraft, it has been built to a sufficient level of airworthiness to be safely operated under specific limitations and regulations
If you take off at a Gross weight of 1305 lbs, is your C of A valid?
No (R44 is 2500, min 1600)
Is the Journey logbook required to be carried on board at all times?
Yes except if it is not planned that the aircraft will land and shut down at any location other than the point of departure.

Inspections are based on accumulated air time
Commercial - 25,50,100,200 depending on manufacturers recommendations
Private - annual or 100 hrs

Which is the engine oil in use? How do you find out? Can you mix different grades of oil?

I think it’s 50 or 80w plus right now, confirm
Higher the temp, higher the number
I believe you can mix yes maybe only oils that have a close viscosity as other grades may affect lubrication
If there is no alert card with the logbook, how can you determine that the aircraft is up to date on scheduled and calendar maintenance?
Check logbook for recent inspection dates and hours?
When does a R44 become due for an overhaul?

How often must a compass be swung and how do you verify it?
The compass must be swung every 12 months and verified through placing aircraft on compass rose, turning the aircraft on various headings and recording the compass readings
When must an ELT be on board? How is it tested and how often should it be inspected? When should the batteries be replaced?
An ELT must be on board for all flights, is tested by turning on for less than 5 seconds in the first 5 mins of every hour Zulu, inspected every 12 months, and batteries should be replaced every 12 months or 50% of battery life
Required for flights over 25 nm from aerodrome?
What all will you check in the journey log before proceeding for a cross country flight?
Check recent flights, maintenance entries, and defects, upcoming inspections and make sure the aircraft is airworthy
Can technical logbooks be carried on board while ferrying an aircraft?
No, the tech logs and journey log should be sent via separate means
For how long should the journey logbook be retained after it is filled?
The journey logbook should be retained for 1 year after it is filled
For how long should the technical logbooks be retained after it is filled?
(1) Pursuant to CAR 605.96, the owner of an aircraft shall maintain and retain technical records, other than the Journey Log, until such time as the aircraft is no longer registered.
(2) Technical records pertaining to repetitive inspections of aircraft need only be retained until the inspection activity is repeated.
What is the essential equipment required on board for day VFR flight?

it must be written on the very next line in the journey log by the person who found it in order to effectively ground the aircraft from flight until a maintenance assessment can be made

No, you cannot fly an aircraft with a defect entered in the journey logbook unless it is deferred
What do you understand by deferred defects? How are they entered in the journey logbook?
Deferred defects are issues that can be addressed later and are entered with a note on the corrective action timeline
What personal documents should you carry on board while operating an aircraft?
pilot licence, medical certificate, and radio licence

A Class 3 medical is required for a private pilot, valid for 5 years if under 40, 2 years over 40

A Class 1 medical is required for a commercial pilot, valid for 12 months, reduced to 6 if over 40 and engaged in single pilot air transport of passengers, or 6 months over 60 years or older
When does the medical expire?
The medical expires on the first day of the month 12 months after the date of your medical exam month
Example if you had medical June 12, 2024 it would expire July 1 2025
For how long is the radio licence valid?
Radio license is valid for life as long as you have hearing
Can you fly if the validity of your medicals has expired?
No, unless you have a cpl medical exporter you can exercise the privileges of a ppl license until that expiry date
