Q

Give an explanation for:

Air has weight.

A

Air presses on things. This pressure is called air pressure.
Air presses on things in all directions. This is why we don’t feel air pressure and why the weight of air doesn’t crush us.

Q

Give an explanation for:

Air has kinetic energy.

A

Air particles are constantly moving and colliding with each other. This creates large spaces between particles of air. These empty spaces allow air to be compressed.

Q

Give an explanation for:

Air can be compressed.

A

Extra air can be squeezed into a container. Squeezed in air is called compressed air.

Q

Give an explanation for:

Air expands and contracts.

A

When air molecules are heated they expand and when cooled they contract. This means cold air is thicker then warm air.

Q

Explain the three types of variables.

A

Manipulated Variable: the one condition that is changed in an experiment. If you change than one your results will not be valid.
Controlled Variable: the conditions that remain the same in an experiment.
Responding Variable: the result of an experiment.

Q

Explain five ways to prove that air exists.

A

Fire needs oxygen to burn. When we placed the glass over the candle it used up all the oxygen so the fire went out.
When we weighed the deflated balloon, it weighed a lot less than the inflated balloon.
When air pushes against water it refrains the water from pouring into the bowl.
When air pushes against a balloon, it refrains the balloon from blowing up.
A hole allows air to escape. When we covered the hole so no air could get out.
