Aims & Hypothesis Flashcards
Aim
A statement of what the researcher intends to find out in a research study
E.g. - To investigate if girls are smarter than boys
Hypothesis
A prediction based on an explanation, model or theory
A good hypothesis should be written clearly and precisely. It should state what you expect should happen, not why it will happen
E.g. - Girls will outperform boys at AS level
Directional Hypothesis
Stating how one variable will affect another
State in what way the variable will affect the other one
E.g. - Stress will increase the number of days off sick
Non-Directional Hypothesis
When we think a variable will affect another variable, but we don’t know how
E.g. - There will be a difference in the number of days off sick taken by people who are stressed
Null Hypothesis
Stating what will happen if there is no difference or relationship between our variables
E.g. - There is no difference in the aggression scores between boys and girls
