why is the water aid project needed in bangladesh
A
- groundwater is scarce and the walk for water can take a long time
- often dangerous as women walk for miles over steep terrain
- due to a lack of clean water, diarrhoea and dysentery are common among people
- the stream water collected is often unsafe to drink and contaminated with animal faeces and bacteria

what does the water aid project in bangladesh do
A
- organises the installation of a gravity flow water system
- water is trapped at its source in the hills and then piped down to storage tanks below- a network of pipes then supplies the water to communities in the villages where people can get clean, safe water close to their homes
- 59 villages have been helped but the aim is 500
- built using local people from the villages which helped train them how to use and fix them if needed
- the project is paid for by each household contributing 15 takas (16p) a month to the cost of supplying the water

how were people lives changed by the water aid project in bangladesh
A
- children are no longer required to walk dangerous journeys that can take hours several times a day and are now able to go to school and receive an education which can help to get a higher paying job in the future
- people are able to grow more and better quality crops so have more food and more money from selling them
- improves the sanitation and hygiene in the local area
