revision 4 Flashcards
Making ethanol from fermentation (making alcoholic drinks) advantages
Uses crops and waste plant materials (renewable)
Can be conducted at low cost
Is done at low temperatures (cheap)
Making ethanol from fermentation (making alcoholic drinks) disadvantages
The use of crops could affect food supply
Ethalol is produced in batches, not constant
Requires fractional distilation to be ready
Slow, produces co2
Making ethanol from ethene (in steam form) advantages
Faster than fermentation
Efficent (no waste products)
Can contimously produce ethanol to make demand
Hydration can produce it in fully automated factory, doesnt need humans
Can produce ethanol which doesnt need further refinment
Making ethanol from ethene (in steam form) disadvantages
Uses petroleum (fossil fule, will run out)
Hydration requires high temperatures and pressure which are expensive
Ethanol as a fuel advantages
Little co2 used/released
Renewable (uses waste products)
Can be mixed with oetrol whoch would remove fossil fules
Ethanol as a fuel disadvantages
Takes up land which could be used for farming
Takes 14-40 days
co2 and co neutral or not
co2 is acidic,. co is neutral
lime stone gives off
co2 when heated
food preparation uses
sulfur dioxide
cu sulfate
white when dry, blue com agua
cobalt chloried
blue when dry, pink with water
cl br and i colours
white, cream and yellow
rf value
highest point of substance/ water distance
entaphy change
bonds broken - bonds made
long chain hydrocarbons dont
make good fuel so are cracked into shorter alkanes and alkenes
