Agronomy Flashcards
1.Classification due to the hydrological condition in rice field (growing ecology)
i. Upland rice, ii. Lowland rice, iii. Deepwater rice and iv. Floating rice
Growing Ecology commonly found in Africa
For rice
i. Upland rice, ii. Hydromorphic, iii. Rainfed /Intensified rainfed lowland and iv. Irrigated lowland
Rice Classification by growing period
I.Very early maturing variety – growing period 135 days
Stages of growth of Rice
A.VEGETATIVE
•Germination
•Seedlings
•Tillering
B. REPRODUCTIVE STAGE
•Stem enlongation
•Booting
C. Ripening Stage •Heading •Milk •Dough •Yellow ripe •Maturity
Milk stage
the developing starch grains in the kernel is soft and the interior of the kernel is filled with white liquid resembling milk
Soft Dough stage –
the starch in the grain is beginning to become firm but it still soft
Hard dough stage –
the whole grain is firm and almost ready for harvest. Moisture content is still above 22 percent
Maturity –
The whole grain is hard and ready for harvest. The moisture content at this stage is approximately between 20 to 22 percent
