What was kett’s rebelllion?
Kett’s Rebellion was a revolt in Norfolk, England during the reign of Edward VI, largely in response to the enclosure of land. It began at Wymondham on 8 July 1549 with a group of rebels destroying fences that had been put up by wealthy landowners
What were enclosures?
Enclosures were the closure of land by wealthy land owners
What was rack-renting?
The land owners were changing the price of the rent to make it difficult for the tenants to pay the land owner
What is foldcourse?
This tradition allowed the landlords to use their tenants’ lands and the commonland to graze sheep.This led to tenants enclosing their arable lands to protect them from their landlord’s sheep.
