AGK day 3 Flashcards
If you lose one of the hydraulic system what should you do
Open the power transfer
If anything goes wrong what do you do
Check list
What is a single acting actuator
Convert hydraulic pressure into movement
What is a non return valve
Maintain flow direction in a single direction
How non return valves kept being non return
Different hole sizes
What are the two types of system on a hydraulic system
Passive and active
How does a closed centre system work
Maintains a constant supply that constantly pumps around the system
What is the hydraulic reservoir
Store for hydraulic fluid
Why is the hydraulic reservoir pressurised
As you increase the altitude the rate of evaporation increases but pressurisation stops this
Why is nitrogen used in accumulators
It does not combust
How may application of brakes can you use on the accumulator
6 applications
What is EDP
Engine driven pump
What drives hydraulic pumps
The accessory gearbox
What is a constant delivery pump
Flow rate dependent on speed of rotation of the gears
How does an automatic cut out value work
Works with constant delivery pump
Where he use of pressure will decide it it moves into the reservoir or to the system
How does a swash-plate pump work
A spinning pump that takes in fluid and is turned until the sliding shoe and he wish plate causes the piston to push out the pressure
What tuns the swash plate pump
Drive shaft
What is a hydraulic filter
Keeps fluid contamination free
What is pressure relief valve
Protects the system from over pressurisation by having the excess pressure have a spring causing a ball to unseat leading to it going back to the reservoir
What is a restrictor valve
Reduces fuel flow by having a one way restrictor that only allows one way flow
What is a shuttle valve
Two different supplies that works under two different pressures this means it one fails the other one Picts up
How does a hydraulic fuse work
Protects from leaking hydraulic fluid by pressure differences
If the side of the equipment leaks the pressure will no longer be equal leading to the springs slamming shut and closing the normal passageway through the valve
What psi does most systems operate at
3000 - 4000
If you have a leak in the green reservoir what should you do
Cut off fuel to the engines because the pipe will be longest
What is the most important part of the place if a total failure
The rudder
What does a ram air turbine do
If a generator fails it pops out the bottom and turns to produce electricity
What is an air turbine motor
High pressure bleed through a turbine which powers a hydraulic pump
Why do Landing gears conduct static electric
They have a carbon content in the wheels
What is the landing gear designed to do
Absorb the loads experienced on the airframe
What is the standard landing gear for air transport planes
Tricycle landing gear
What do spats do
Make a fixed gear more aerodynamic
What is a nose gear
A two wheel landing gear
What is a main gear
A two wheel landing gear with reinforcement
What is a bogey gear
A four tyre plus landing gear found on the larger jets
What absorbs the shock of landing
Shock absorbers
What is the shock absorber made up of
The oleo strut
The gas acts as a spring
The oil dampens the spring action
What is the oleo strut made up of
Hydraulic oil (DTD 585) and nitrogen gas
What might an overly compressed oleo mean
Low gas pressure
Fluid leak
Positives of the nose wheel attachment
Much lighter
Folds up so when moving it is being locked in
Shimmy protection
What do down locks do
Ensure that accidental retraction cannot occur
What are gear locks
Locks for the landing gear
What are micro switches and proximity switches
Made for systems all linking together
Micro are mechanical
Proximity are electric
When is an aircraft getting the most tortional load
When taxiing on the ground at tight angles
What are the light sequences for gears
Green- gear locked down
Red- gear is unlocked
No lights- gear is in the up and locked position
What is VLO (velocity landing gear operating)
The higher of the two speeds and allows for gear down ferry fight but watch out for increase fuel consumption
What is VLE velocity landing gear extended
The lower speed and takes into account the aerodynamic forces on the gear and door mechanism
What is he main emergency gear extension
A gravity or free fall system
How does nose steering work in a light aircraft
Ruder pedal
Differential braking
How does nose steering work in a light twin aircraft
Tiller
How does nose steering work in large aircraft
Tiller can steer up to 75 degrees left or right
Body gear steering
What is nose wheel shimmy
Uncontrolled vibration of the wheel
What shimmy prevention is there
Hydraulically locking the steering piston
Double nose wheels
Self centering springs
