what is socialisation in the workplace?
workplace considered - tertiary socialisation or re-socialisation
- reinforces norms/values of adult life
- workplace can provide a subculture eg. police ‘canteen culture’ where police recruits are introduced to subculture where sexist + racist attitudes are acceptable
examples of socialisation in the work place?
- encourages punctuality and organisation
- hierarchy = accepting that some people are superiors who should not be questioned
- health and safety
- behaving in fear of getting fired

think its important factor for re-socialisation
- concern that long-term unemployment leads to socialisation wearing off

importance as it’s a source of class identity
but –> increasingly people don’t work in big factories can be seen as critiscm of marxist view of class

inequality in the workplace is normalised - complain about glass ceiling
- idea that there is an invisible barrier for woman seeing promotions
- instead women are consigned to 4C’s = catering, caring, cooking, cleaning
