The National Planning Board, DOI (1933)
Created to assist in the preparation of a comprehensive plan for public works. Its last successor agency the National Resources Planning Board, was abolished in 1943.
Federal Emergency Relief Administration (1933)
Created by Harry Hopkins to organize relief work in urban and rural areas.
Tennessee Valley Authority (1933)
Multi-state organization that was created to provide for a united and multi-purpose rehabilitation and redevelopment of the Tennessee Valley.
Resettlement Administration (1935)
Carried out experiments in land reform and population resettlement. The agency built three (3) greenbelt towns; Greenbelt, MD; Greendale, WI; Greenhills, OH.
Farm Security Administration (1937)
Successor to the Resettlement Administration and administrator of may programs to aid the rural poor.
Housing and Home Financing Agency (1947)
Created to coordinate federal government’s various housing programs. Predecessor of HUD
The National Trust for Historic Preservation (1949)
Created and chartered by Congress to support the preservation of historic buildings and neighborhoods through a range of programs and activities, including the publication of Preservation magazine.
Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (1959)
Created by Congress and member from various branches of the government, the commission serves as a research agency and think thank in the area of intergovernmental relations.
Delaware River Basin Commission (1961)
Created in 1961 to manager the water resources of the Delaware River between NY, NJ, and PA.
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) (1965)
HUD succeeds the Housing and Home Finance Agency in 1965. Rover Weaver is HUD’s first Secretary and the nation’s first black cabinet member.
