Society has a responsibility to care for the vulnerable (younger and older people), called “the burden of care” and puts pressure on resources

• Hirsch said that people will wither have to work into their 60s to pay more taxes during their working life to contribute towards the cost of health and social care in later life
  –> pensioners are also competing with young people for housing, which makes the pricing of housing rise

1.) Care of old people leaving the hospital used to be carried out by the NHS, but now this is carried out by social services

2.) Delivering more minor health & social care services in the home has improved independence and comfort for older people who do not want to move into retirement homes
