Why was Jackson favored?
Jackson resonated with the common people (male Suffrage) and the expansionist spirit of the era. He was also known as a hero due to his many wins in battles in the War of 1812 and victory of Natives.
What was the “Spoils System”?
A way of rewarding political supporters with government jobs, which led to both increased political participation and the potential for corruption. It was first implemented by Andrew Jackson.
What was the Court case of Worcester v. Georgia?
The Supreme Court ruled that Georgia’s laws regarding the Cherokee Nation were unconstitutional, recognizing the Cherokee as a distinct, independent political community, but President Andrew Jackson refused to enforce the ruling, leading to the forced removal of the Cherokee, known as the Trail of Tears.
What became of the status of the political parties of the U.S.?
Jackson’s supporters, known as Democrats, formed the Democratic party.
What was the outcome of the Nullification Crisis?
Jackson’s handling of the Nullification Crisis, in which South Carolina threatened to secede over tariffs, established the principle that states could not disregard federal law.
